After dropping its first three games of the season, the visiting Owen County High School softball squad claimed a 12-9, three-inning victory over Shelby County on Saturday.

The Lady Rebels actually played two games on Saturday at Shelby County, suffering a 10-1, four-inning loss to Garrard County in the other contest.

  • Owen County opened the season with a 13-2, five-inning loss to Sacred Heart on March 11.

The Lady Rebels were outhit 11-6, and the Valkyries also took advantage of nine base on balls issued by Owen County pitchers.

Sophomores Abigayle Dempsey and Shaylee Glacken provided two hits each, with Dempsey’s hits being doubles. Dempsey also drove in a run.

Senior teammate Hannah Howard doubled and scored a run, and seventh-grader Hallie Tirey singled and drove in a run.

Sophomore Andi Baumann scored a run.

The Lady Rebels struck out 12 times.

  • One day later, Owen County suffered a 5-0 loss to visiting Grant County.

Howard had the lone hit for the Lady Rebels, and she pitched a complete game in the pitcher’s circle, scattering 10 hits and allowing just one earned run. She struck out four hitters and did not walk anyone.

Owen County then suffered a 13-3, five-inning loss at South Oldham on March 20.
